Worldwide, about 1.25 million people die from car accidents per year. Around 95% of these accidents are caused by human error. So, in theory, by automating driving, we could save about a million lives a year.
We could also see other benefits, including reduced congestion, journey times, CO2 emissions and noise, and increased mobility and independence for elderly people, and increased productivity during commuting times.
